Biography
Edmund was born in 1791, and baptized in Charlottetown in 1792, the son of William and Catherine. [1]He passed away in 1866.
He was in Lot 49 by 1816. Edward Burke signed a lease for 999 years for 50 acres in Lot 49 with Mary Stewart in 1818. [2]
His first wife died, and in 1828, he married Mary Acorn, also from Lot 49. [3]
Died. At Lot 49 on the 23d June, after a lingering illness, Mr. Edward Burke, in the 76th year of his age, leaving a wife and numerous family to mourn their loss. [4][5]
Edward named his wife Mary Ann, sons Richard and David and daughter Emily in his will. [6]
Research Notes
How likely is it that Edmund/Edward was born in Alberton in 1791? There were no residents in Lot 2 in the 1798 Census of Prince Edward Island. His parents had him baptized in Charlottetown, and they were in Charlottetown in 1798.
A William Burke signed a land conveyance in 1780 for pasture lots in Charlottetown with Thomas Desbrisay, and for 100 acres in Lot 65 in 1794, and 134 Acres in Lot 22 in 1808.
