Minerva was born in Indiana in 1844, the daughter of Berry Burks and Ellen Kennidy. In 1866 she married Joseph W. Vaughan, and they had at least one child. After husband died in a train accident in 1876, she and her daughter Minnie went to live with her mother Ellen Burks and sister Amanda Dean, who had also had lost her husband two years earlier.
She died in 1911 and is buried with her husband at Stilesville Cemetery, Hendricks County, Indiana.
