Biography
John was the son of Riley Burks and Annis Reed. He married Sarah E. Rice in 1881. [1] Their children were:
- Mary Elizabeth Burks Kennedy 1869 - 1897
- William Hollis Burks
- Mira Eddie Burks Fanning 1872 - 1947
- Jacob Claiborne Burks 1875
- Benjamin Hollis Burks 1876(8) - 1964
- Rachel Burks 1879 -
- Bobbie E Burks Hinshaw 1884 - 1959
They lived in Collins, Jackson, Alabama. [2] They had 8 children with only 4 living past 1900. [3] Her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, is often confused with Sarah because Sarah raised Mary's youngest son Montgomery Kennedy. Both women had Elizabeth as a middle name. They moved to Franklin, Tennessee before 1910. [4] Sarah and John moved to Alabama and lived with their daughter Eddie Fanning. [5] John died in 1925 [6] and is buried in McClure Cemetery, Huntland, Franklin County, Tennessee. [7]
