Private Isaac Burleson served with North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

Isaac Burleson is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A204725.

Isaac was born on 7 Oct 1750 in Virginia and his parents were Sarah and Jonathan Crawford Burleson.

As a youth he moved from Virginia to Rocky River in Anson County, North Carolina.

During the American Revolutionary War he joined the military and as of Feb 1776 he served as a Private [1] in Captain Charles Polk’s Clear Creek, North Carolina Militia. [2] Most of his service was in the Cross Creek (Fayetteville) area of the state, helping put down uprisings by Tory or Loyalist forces who continued to support King George. In April 1776 he joined the 5th South Carolina Regiment.

In 1779 part of Anson County went into the formation of Montgomery County, North Carolina.

Isaac Burleson married Martha Clay. Tradition relates that she was related to Henry Clay, the outspoken Kentucky senator.

He was on the 1782 tax list for Montgomery County, North Carolina.

For his military service he received In 1785 a land grant of 100 acres along the Yadkin River in Montgomery County, North Carolina.

On 05 Nov 1794 he recorded his purchase of 100 acres of land on Little Bear Creek, about 300 yards below the mouth of Running Branch. [3]

He passed away about 1810 in Stanly, North Carolina, USA. [4]

He was noted as deceased In November 1815 when his property was mentioned as a line mark. [5]

In 1841 part of Montgomery County went into the formation of Stanly County, North Carolina. He is the ancestor of all of the Burleson family in Stanly County, North Carolina.

In 1995 a military marker was placed on his grave by the Sons of the American Revolution Society.
