[Note: Reference in some texts of dob in 1696 would indicate Mary was 10 years old at the time of her marriage in 1706 and is probably incorrect? Her burial indicates her birth in 1688. Conant Genealogy indicates birth 1696; marriage in 1716 which conflicts with the dob's of children named in wills of both Samuel and Mary. Did not find her birth in Ipswich records.]

Biography

Mary Burley was c1688 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Andrew Burley and Mary Conant. [1] [2] [3]

Mary Burley married Samuel Adams September 28, 1706 in Ipswich, Essex, Massachusetts. [4] Samuel was born June 29, 1682, son of Nathaniel and Mercy (Dickenson) Adams. [1] [2] [3][5]

Her father Andrew died on February 1, 1718, and in his estate papers, Samuel Adams and Mary, his wife signed an agreement related to the settlement. [6]

Samuel died at Ipswich on Aug. 13, 1747. [4]

His will was written on July 23, 1747. In it he names:

  • beloved wife Mary
  • sons Samuel Jr. (executor), Jonathan, Nathaniel, James, John, Andrew
  • daughters Mary Stow, Sarah Whipple, Elizabeth Dane, Eunice [7]

Mary Burley Adams died March 5, 1786 in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts. [1] (Her gravestone says she died March 13, 1786, in the 85th year of her age.) She was buried in the Worcester Common Burial Ground in Worcester, Worcester, Massachusetts.[8]

Her will was written on April 29, 1771. In it she left bequests to:

  • son Nathaniel Adams of Worcester
  • son Andrew Adams of Grafton, sole exectutor
  • son James Adams of Uxbridge
  • son John Adams of Uxbridge
  • son Jonathan Adams of Shrewsbury
  • daughter Mary Stow of Grafton
