Mary was born in 1856 in Indiana. She was the daughter of Adam Burlison and Eletha Aldridge.[1] In 1875 she married Charles Givens in Indiana.[2] She passed away in 1886.[3]
Mary Ann (the family called her "Mollie") was the daughter of Aletha Ann (Albright) and the Reverend Adam Hampton Burlison and was born on November 30, 1856. By 1870 Mollie was living with her parents in Black Township, Posey County on the family farm. The census lists her father as being forty-three and the value of their farm was listed as $1,000. Living at home were: Leathy (49), Elizabeth (16), Mollie A (13), Aaron L. (11), Adam H. (8) and Hammah Melton (16). On August 29, 1875 she married Charles Frederick Givens (my great uncle). Children of Mollie and Charles included Pleasant Greene (who went by his middle name Greene), David, twins Nora and Cora, and Alvin. Charles had established a thriving farm in Marrs Township, Posey County, Indiana which was located near the town of Mount Vernon in the southwestern corner of Indiana. By 1880 they owned ten acres with three horses, one milk cow and two other cattle. Their son Pleasant Greene was born on August 25, 1879, married Elva May Orman on September 5, 1909 and died at Mount Vernon on August 22, 1953. Their second son David was born in May of 1882, never married, and died of pneumonia in Kentucky in about 1908. Their two daughters Nora and Cora died in infancy. Their youngest son Alvin was born in Posey County on August 5, 1886 and died in childhood. Ten days after the birth of Alvin, Mary Ann died. The date was August 15, 1886. She was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemtery (sometimes called the Bufkin Cemetery), located near the family farm just north of Mount Vernon.[4]
