Samuel was born in 1842.[1] He was baptised on 30th June 1844 at St Luke, Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Lancashire, England as the son of Samuel Burman and Juliana Bonsall. An address of Medlock Street, Hulme is recorded and his father's occupation was a plumber and glazier.[2]
In 1851 he lived with his parents at 176 Medlock Street, Hulme, Lancashire, England[3]
