Eliza was born in 1847.[1] She was baptised on 15th March 1846 at Islington Presbyterian Church, Islington, Middlesex as the daughter of George Burman and Matilda Biddell.[2]
In 1851 she lived with her parents at 13 Yardley Street, Clerkenwell, Middlesex, England.[3]
By 1860 she was an orphan and was admitted into the Central London School District. The registered records that the charge was to be sent to the parish of St Sepulchre, Middlesex, England (Clerkenwell) and that she had an uncle. [4]
In 1861 she was at the Central London District School, Hanwell, Middlesex, England[5] and in 1871 she was visiting at 4 Devonshire Street, Holborn, Middlesex as an unemployed general servant.[6] In 1881 at 4 Stafford Place, St George Hanover Square, Middlesex, England as a general domestic servant.[7] In 1891 she was living at Gravesend, Kent as a general servant[8] and in 1901 at 25 Cree Church Lane, Algate, London as a domestic servant. This record states that she was deaf.[9]
