Described in the Scottish Congregational Magazine as being a "man eminent for piety and zeal and distinguished for his evangelical views of divine truth and for the bold and uncompromising stand which he made in the church courts, against the arbitrary proceedings of the moderate party. He died in the month of February 1800 and his memory is yet warmly cherished by those whose happiness it was to sit under his ministrations."
