James Burn was born 1734 in Scotland, and died 22 Feb 1800 in Forgan Parish, Fife, Scotland. He married (1) Agnes Hamilton 17 Dec 1761 in Forgan Parish, Fife, Scotland. He married (2) Barbara Cockburn 11 Nov 1773 in Forgan Parish, Fife, Scotland. He married (3) Elizabeth Steward 22 Nov 1781. He had a total of 17 children.[1]

"[Invested] 7th May 1761[.] JAMES BURN, born 1734; licensed by Presbytery of Kirkcaldy, 29th December, 1757; presented to Kilconquhar 26th April, 1759, but not settled' ordained by the Presbytery Classes of Newcastle, Minister of Castlegarthe Meeting House, 10th December, 1760; presented by George III 23rd January and admitted 7th May; died 22nd February, 1800."[5]

Described in the Scottish Congregational Magazine as being a "man eminent for piety and zeal and distinguished for his evangelical views of divine truth and for the bold and uncompromising stand which he made in the church courts, against the arbitrary proceedings of the moderate party. He died in the month of February 1800 and his memory is yet warmly cherished by those whose happiness it was to sit under his ministrations."

Burial: Forgan Cemetery, Forgan, Fife, Scotland.[6]
