Biography

Maria was born in Eastrington, Yorkshire, England, and baptised there in 1829. She was the daughter of William Burn and his wife Mary;^[1] in 1841 Maria lived with her parents in Eastrington.^[2]

At the time of the 1851 census Maria worked as a domestic servant for the Christer family in Melbourne, Yorkshire.^[3]

She married Christopher Brian in 1852 in Eastrington, Yorkshire,^[4] where the family lived in 1861.^[5] By 1871 they had moved to York, Yorkshire, where Christopher found work in a brickyard.^[6]

Christopher died in 1872 at the age of 45.^[7] In 1881 Maria lived with her sons in York. She was an unemployed laundress.^[8]

Maria died in 1890 at the age of 59.^[9]
