It was near the end of the Civil War when John Burnett and a Mr. Warner along with John's son Fred were walking on a trail. They heard some men approaching them on the trail. Fred who was a young boy was frightened and hid in the bushes. The men attacked John Burnett and Mr. Warner, killing them both. The bushwhackers not knowing that Fred was watching from the bushes left. Fred attempted to bury his father near a tree. He was not able to complete the burial and left to get help to complete the burial. When a group of family and friends returned Fred was unable to find the body's of his father and Mr Warner.
