Robert James was born in 1915, the son of David Burnett and Alice Maud Mary (Kronk)[1]
In 1937 he married Catherine Hilda Sherlock in Victoria[2]
In the 1937 Australian electoral roll for Brunswick West, Victoria, they were living at 151 Sydney Road and Robert was employed as a textile worker.[3]
Robert enlisted in the Australian Army (2nd AIF) during WWII. Service number VX12636.[4]
Robert was a gunner with the 2/2 Field Regiment and a prisoner of war. He was held in Stalag XIIIC & Stalag 383 (POW number 09684) - He returned to Australia. [5]
He returned to Australia in 1945 on transport 15 (Arundel Castle) leaving on February 5th.[6]
Robert and Catherine were divorced in 1946 on grounds of desertion. Robert was then living in England.
