Saturday evening about six - thirty, Mrs. Catherine Winterstein, aged resident of Griswold, mention of whose illness had been in these columns from time to time, passed into the last sleep--the sleep that knows no awakening in this world. She suffered a stroke of paralysis some weeks ago and from the very first it was known that there were no hope of her ever recovering. Her children were called to her bedside and they have been with her most of the time she had been ill. During her last illness she was a very patient sufferer. As had been her custom all through her long and eventful life she was ever considerate of those who ministered to her. Catherine Louisa Burnett was born in Wayne County, Ohio, January 11,1846, and at the time of her death had reached the age of 82 years, 3 months and 10 days. Her parents died when she was a young girl. She grew to womanhood in her native state and the family moved to Cedar county, Iowa, where she was united in marriage on June 10th, 1869, to William Winterstein. A., of Griswold; Mrs. Ethel Weston, of St. James, Minn.; Kate, at home; Tom and Ray, of Griswold; Benjamin, of Grant; Mrs. Martha Rumsey, of Omaha. Susie Ploghoft died in 1917. Mr. Winterstein passed away in 1917. There is also one brother, Chas. Soon after the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Winterstein they moved to Montgomery County, Iowa. Later they moved to Pottawattamie County, Wright Township, and this was their home until they retired from the farm in 1908. Mrs. Winterstein reunited with the Methodist church many years ago and kept her membership in Griswold. She was a regular attendant until her health would not permit. She was also active in the Ladies Circle of the G.A.R. The funeral services were held from the M.E. Church of this city, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J.S. Ellis. Singing was by a male quartet and the following songs were rendered: "My Mother's Bible", "Rock of Ages", "Abide With Me", and "Lead Kindly Light". Burial was made in the Griswold cemetery.
