Elizabeth was born on the 28 February 1828 in the Hamlet of Fisherbriggs, south west of the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of James Burnett and Jean "Jane" Trail.
Her baptism takes place on the 9 March 1828 at the Parish Church of Pitsligo, in the Hamlet of Peathill, south of the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland[1].
Elizabeth (Burnett) marries widower, William (Johnston) initially on the 25 November 1849 at the Parish Church, 5 Barrasgate Road, in the Town of Fraserburgh, about 40 miles (64 km) north of the City of Aberdeen, in Aberdeenshire, north east Scotland[2]. Then, the couple marry on the 6 December 1849 at the Parish Church of Pitsligo, in the Hamlet of Peathill, south of the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland[3].
We find Elizabeth in the Census Record of 1841 living with her parents James (Burnett) and Jean "Jane" (Trail), along with siblings George, Isabella, Jane and James (Burnett). However, their surname is spelt as "Burnet" in the Record and they are living in the Hamlet of Fisherbriggs, south west of the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland[4]. By 1851, Elizabeth (Burnett) has married William (Johnston) and they are living with his son, William (Johnston) near Aberdour House, near the Mill of Auchlin and north east of the Village of New Aberdour, in the Parish of Aberdour, Aberdeenshire, Scotland[5].
In 1861, Elizabeth and William are living in the Hamlet of Mountheathie, south west of the Village of New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. They reside there with children Barbara, Alexander, Isabella and Ann Morrice (Johnston)[6]. With the arrival of the Census of 1871, only children Elizabeth and Charles (Johnston) remain living with them in the Hamlet of Mountheathie, south west of the Village of New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Their surname is spelt as "Johnstone" in the Census Record[7].
Then, in 1881, their daughter Barbara (Johnston) is back living with them, along with their grandchildren Mary A., Isabella and 1 month old Elizabeth (Johnston). They reside in the Village of Rosehearty, on the coast of the Moray Firth, four miles west of the Town Fraserburgh, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland[8]. Unfortunately, by the time of the Census Record of 1891, Elizabeth has lost her husband William (Johnston) and is living as a widow with her granddaughters, Isabella (Sandison) and Christina (Johnston). Their address is at 30 Shore Street, in the Village of Rosehearty, in the Parish of Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland[9].
In 1901, she is living with her great granddaughter, Williamina B. (Johnston) and they reside at 32 Shore Street, in the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. To supplement her income, she is employed as a Stocking Knitter and Dressmaker and her surname is spelt as "Johnstone" in the Census Record[10]. She is still living in the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland with the Census Record of 1911[11].
Elizabeth (Burnett) passes away on the 15 December 1915 at 11.10 pm at 34 Union Street, in the Village of Rosehearty, Parish of Pitsligo, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. She was 86 years old and the cause of death was attributed to Senile Decay. Her son-in-law, Andrew {illegible} was present at the death, and informant[12].
