Biography

Bernice Lucille Burnett was an autodidact of the arcane and the philosophic AND a natural mathematician. She was grateful to have been whisked to Los Angeles, California, with her sister Azubah by her mother Edna Owen Burnett when she was a 16 year old at the end of her first year in a TX high school. She regretted and was angered by not being supported by her mother when they reached California, thus hiring out as a bookkeeper. Thus she became an amazing and intelligent self-teacher until she died.

A gorgeous woman and girl, she would have been a misfit for the tiny sand-flat town of her birth in every possible way. She received her GED in later life, after she was 50 years old. Her analytic interests arose from her self-education and frequently used her math skills: Astronomy, archaeology, numerology, astrology.

She read the ancient philosophers of Europe, mythology; she tried to translate the Bible from the Greek (original version) and the Rosetta Stone. When she studied an individual astrology chart, she would analyze and then intuit individuals' charts well, as they reported to me decades later.

Buried at Sea, with love: Pacific Ocean, off San Diego, CA, USA.

SHADE'S TREE: A loving family biography made by family when Bernice and Roberta (mother and daughter) were both alive. Contains family photos available to the family at the time this biography was typed up. Very poor photo copying, but it survives. It is: "3. She loved our one at a time dogs, But we don't have many photos of them. Photos were expensive in the 1940s and '50s, she said at the time. Just living a better life must have been heaven for her, but she was sadly not a self-discloser.

Bernice could "field" a tennis ball while playing in the yard with a grandchild as easily in her late 70s as she could in her earlier years. She was tall enough for basketball and quick enough for softball. She was a natural athlete.

If you too are a relative of James Bowie and his close relatives, please send me a short note (of 1-2 sentence(s).
My mother knew plenty and could tell me so much. But our relation with James Bowie I've only now started to use. She and her parents were the opening of American Western History in our family. See James Bowie for starters.Enjoy!
