Henry Burnley was the son of Israel Burnley and Hannah Terrell. Israel Burnley died in Wilkes County, Georgia in 1790. Hannah died there in 1792. Israel named his children in his will proved Jan 1791.[1]

Henry was born in 1756. He was the son of Isrel Burnley and Hannah Terrell. He passed away before 5 Mar1835.[2] His will is headed Columbia Co., GA, and the will was proved in Columbia Co., GA. In the Rev. War 5th regiment VA line under George washington183

Married widow of best friend jack smith Davenport who died on the battle of Guilford court house.

Henry served in the Revolution. [3] He enlisted in 1776 as a private in Capt Henry Terrell's company, Fifth Virginia Continental Line, served two years, and fought at Williamsburg, Suffolk, Norfolk and Springfield and the was with General Washinton at Whitemarsh. He volunteered again and fought at the Battle of Burgoyne, under Colonel Morgan, Colonel Butler and Major Morris. In 1776, he received a commission as ensign in Capt. Lawson's company and in 1782 was promoted to Lieutenant.[1]

Family legend has it that as Henry Burnley and Jack Davenport waited together for dawn before the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. The two friends chatted and Jack asked Henry to take care of his wife Lucy in case something happened to him. During the battle, Jack was shot in the chest and died a few weeks later. Henry Burnley kept his promise to his friend and married Lucy (Barksdale) Davenport on 13 July 1782.[1]

They had a daughter Elizabeth, who was born in Virginia before the family moved to Georgia.[1]

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution stated he was also married about 1806 to Mary "Polly" Locke LITTLE. One of their sons, Henry Terrell BURNLEY and his wife, Phalby STORY are believed to have married about 1829 in Warren County, Georgia. Henry Terrell BURNLEY and Phalby STORY were the parents of at least 2 children, Henry Story BURNLEY (Born: 15 January 1832 in Georgia; Died: 27 March 1918 in Attala County, Mississippi; married: Jane BOYETT) and Mary L. BURNLEY (29 November 1834 in Georgia; Died: 4 January 1926; Married(1): about 1855 to William Henry BROWN; Married (2): Before 1867 to William Moore COOK).
