Sam Burns, 90, of Port Charlotte passed away May 22, 2013. He was the son of George and Dora (Milburn) Burns, born October 21, 1922 in Springfield, KY. Sam was a decorated WWII veteran, receiving multiple awards including the Distinguished Service Cross. He fought under Gen. George Patton across Sicily, then from Anzio to Monti Casino in Northern Italy. He was mostly known for his tireless work for his Lord Jesus. Sam was involved in a jail ministry program for many years, and was a long-time member of the Gideon's. He gave away Bibles to anyone who would stand still long enough to hear him speak about his Lord.
Sam will be greatly missed by his children Linda, Virginia, Lois, Mary, Bryan, and Robert; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eleanor, and their eldest son, John.
