Elizabeth was born in 1833 in Chatham County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Reddick Burns and Naby Stedman.
When she was 25 she married Joseph Segrove on 26 Aug 1858 in Chatham County. They were farmers and lived near her father's farm in Chatham County. They had five girls and two boys, and twenty-two grandchildren.
