I love doing research here. I am working to copy my trees from Ancestry to here fully sourced....it is a process! In the mean time if you would like a link to one of these trees, just message me. I have my trees set up based on each of my grandparents, so I would send a link when I know which tree we share. Happy hunting...

Hi Kelly,

It is once again time for our annual Scotland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

•If you would like to continue as a project member •If you are happy with your current teams or would you like to join a different team •How much time per month (on average) you spend working on Scottish profiles •Anything you’d like the Scotland Project to do more of in the future

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you are no longer able to participate in the Scotland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

On behalf of the Scotland Project, I would like to thank you for your commitment to the project's goals. Every single contribution you make helps improve Scottish profiles!

Sheena - Scotland Project Membership Coordinator

Hi Sheena,

I would still like to be included in the Scotland Project. I recently retired, and I am hoping to spend more time researching. In doing my family research, many of my ancestors came to the US from the British Isles, in particular Ireland and Scotland. My problem is that I don't know where to start on the Scottish side. Most of my branches have been in the US since before 1800. Some are definitely Scotch Irish (Scottish who lived in Ireland (mostly likely Northern Ireland) for many years before coming to the states). If you can direct me to projects to check out, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance, Kelly Richard

Hi Kelly,

It looks like you're already in the relevant Ulster-Scots team. Have you looked at the Scots-Irish and Ulster-Scots project page at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scots-Irish_and_Ulster_Scots which is co-led by both the Scotland and Ireland Projects - there are some resources listed there which may be useful.

Hi Kelly

I haven't heard back from you about our Scotland Project check-in this year. I hope you are well and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sorry about that. I am not super active in Wikitree, however I read my daily updates over, and often read through streaming questions/comments. I joined the project because I have Scottish heritage. My issue rises from the fact that my family came over to the USA so long ago that I struggle to find documentation for the connection. If I was going to join a project it would probably be something about the Scotch immigration to US. Let me know if you have other suggestions.

Hi Kelly!

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months. In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's "Year of Connections" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hi Kelly

The United Kingdom Project has not been active since 2018 and we are now completely closing it down. We are removing all UK project badges. If you still have an interest in the UK and have not already joined another project, then you will need to join the England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales Project by answering one or more of their G2G posts. If your interest is in the British Isles and British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories, then please contact me directly.

Regards Joan

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Hi Kelly,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi! The Wikitree relationship calculator tells me that we're sixth cousins. Our shared ancestor couple is Thomas and Judith (Ferguson) Lewis.

And GEDmatch tells me that we have DNA in common too. We share 8.3 cMs on chromosome 16. So that's cool! It looks like we're on the way to confirming that ancestor couple through DNA.

Which project did you want to join, please?

Kelly, From what I can find my GGGgrandfather Wesley J Burns was in Racine, Wisconsin in 1880, my GGgrandfather and I believe either his step-brother or brother William moved to Chicago. Sometime after 1885 Wesley moved to Ohio, it appears to be Cleveland.

I'll let you know if I find anything else.

Greetings!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.
