Hoye {name spelled as in book --- should be Hoyle} was born in Rutherford co., N.C., June 2, 1814, immigrated with his parents, Nov 1822, to McMinn co., Tenn., where he grew up. He immigrated to Decatur, Ga., while a young man. Here he was married to Miss Catharine Ligon. He afterward removed to Gunter's Landing, Ala., and at a later period to Pontotoc co., Miss. He died Feb. 28, 1871. Just four days before his death, his brother Col. A. C. Hoyle died at his residence at Alverado, Texas, Feb. 24, 1871. His father, the Rev. John Hoyle was for fifty years a zealous preacher of the Methodist Church. He had lost two wives (having been thrice married) and nine children. By his first wife he had four children, only one of whom, a son, is now living. Of the others, two sons had died in the late civil war, and the other, a daughter, was murdered by a negro woman. He has left a widow and three children. G. W. Henry
