Biography

Arthur was born in Pensacola, Florida on 22 August 1901[1]

US Federal and State Census

1910 - Arthur was enumerated in his father's household at 420 North DeVilliers, Pensacola, Escambia, Florida.[2]

1920 - Arthur was enumerated in his mother's household at 322 North Baylen, Pensacola, Escambia, Florida [3].

1930 - Arthur was enumerated as head of household at 410 North Barcelona St, Pensacola, Escambia, Florida[4]

1935 - Arthur was enumerated in the Florida state census at 803 W Belmont, Pensacola, Escambia, Florida[5]

1940 - Arthur was enumerated in his cousin's household at 803 Belmont St., Pensacola, Escambia, Florida[6]

Military Service

On 11 November 1942, Arthur enlisted as a private in the US Army at Louisville, Kentucky[7].

Profession

In 1920, Arthur was a foreman at a shipyard[3]. In 1930, he was a clerk at a railroad "freightD"[4]. In 1935, it was simply "clerical"[5]. In 1940, he was a watchman for the railroad[6].

Death and Burial

Arthur died of pneumonia on 19 October 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was living with his sister and her family at 4201 Fordson Way. The cause of death was pneumonia [8]

BURNS, Arthur T.; Saturday, October 19, 1946, at 8:15 p.m., in his 43d year, at the residence, 4209 Fordson Way; beloved son of Mrs. Louise Burns, Pensacola, Florida; brother of Mrs. Hilda Pfeiffer and Mrs. Gladys Rafferty, Pensacola, Florida. Remains at the George L. Manning Funeral Home, 518-520 N. 26th St. Notice of funeral later.

Arthur T. Burns, 45, a former resident of Pensacola died in Louisville, Ky.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Louise Burns, Pensacola; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Pfeiffer of Louisville and Mrs. John Rafferty, of Pensacola. Mr. Burns has made his home in Louisville for the past eight years. He was a world war veteran.

Funeral services will be conducted in Waters and Hibbert chapel at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday and at 9 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic church with Father Daily officiating.

Pallbearers will be : W. W. Duncan, Herron Hatton, Warren Williamson, J. A. McClousky, Martin Menko and Lt. (jg) William Maxham.

Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

Notes

Family tradition says that Arthur suffered from alcoholism.
