Notes

Note H00026James Burnside, Death Cert. #8737, obtained from NY State Health Dept. names parents William Burnside and Catherine Burnside. Cause of death: Heart Failure. Cert. by Albert H. Palmer, MD (his son-in-law). Father's place of birth given as Maryland and mother's as New York. No evidence that either William or James were ever in either the state of MD or in Maryland, NY. His dob on the death cert is 1807. However, the 1850, 1855 and 1860 census records are consistent with 1809.
IGI record # C506191 shows a William Burnside, born 5/3/1803 in Albany, NY, son of James Burnside and Catherine Taylor. It seems likely that this is James' older brother.
The tombstone in Mountain View Cemetery in Castleton-on-Hudson, NY gives the wrong middle initial (W) for James and has no dates. However, the Death Cert. shows that he was indeed buried there.
