Biography

Edghill Burnside was born about 1797. He was the "son of Captain James Burnside, whose loyalty to the cause of the crown was manifest by his service as an officer in the British Army during the Revolutionary War." He moved with his family to what is now known as Union County, Indiana (see Notes, below), when he was eighteen (i.e., about 1816). Judge Edghill Burnside passed away March 25 (or 28th), 1859, and was buried at Drook Cemetery, Liberty, Union County, Indiana.[1]

Notes

Indiana Territory was admitted to the Union as the 19th state, Indiana, on December 11, 1816. Union County was formed in 1821, from parts of Fayette, Franklin and Wayne counties.
