Biography

Willard was born on June 24, 1874, the second child and only son of Willard Romanza Burr , age 34 and Jerusha Wooster, age 31.

His mother died on June 23, 1884 when Willard was one day shy of his 10th birthday. Two years later, his father remarried. Willard and his two sisters subsequently moved to Hartford, Vermont where their father was looking for better opportunities due to the decline in the Gloversville glove-making business.

Tragically, on June 20, 1888 Willard drowned while swimming in the White River in Vermont, just a few days before his 14th birthday.[1] He was described as "an alert, handsome boy with great promise for the future". His accidental death was a big blow for the family, especially due to the timing so close to the fourth anniversary of his mother's death. That same year, their house burned down. [2]
