Biography

Kate was born in Horsham Sussex on 1 March 1864. She is the daughter of Henry Burrage and Elizabeth Edwards. Kate was christened in Horsham on 22 May 1864.

In the census in 1881, at age 17, Kate was working as a kitchen maid in a residence for mistresses in Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire.

On 13 February 1888, in Warnham (Horsham), Kate married Martin Short and they would become the parents of 2 children. Their older child, Martin, was born prior to the marriage and their daughter Kate was born in 1889. Kate and Martin's union would last for 50 years.

Kate was widowed in 1938 and she passed away in her home town in 1944 at age 80.
