Charles was born 17 Jan 1803 (date reported by Sheila Hutchinson). His age was given as 30 in the 1841 census and 47 in the 1851 census, presumably error for 38 and 48. Charles was the son of Samuel Burrage 1753-1813 and Emma Bull 1765-1851. He married Mary Reeder Westgate ( 1818-?) 24 December 1839.
The 1841 census copy for Burgh Castle is hard to read, but
M. Burrage 75 (the age is consistent with Charles' putative grandmother Emma Bull
Charles Burrage 30 as M.S. (manservant?)
Mary Burrage 25
John Burrage 1 son
Eliza Burrage 15. Is Eliza a close relative? An Eliza Burrage was the daughter of Samuel Burrage 1791-1873 and Margaret Brakenbury 1793-1881 She was born in 1824. At the 1841 census, Eliza would have been 16 or 17.
The 1851 census for Burgh Castle is more legible:
Charles Burrage 47 Parish Clerk aged 17 years since 1841!
Mary N Burrage, Dress Maker. 33 "Mary N" doesn't seem to accord with Mary Reader Burrage born Gt Yarmouth
Mary Hannah illegible 14 Housemaid born Botton Suffolk
