Hyacinth was born in summer 1937, the second of three daughters born to Denys Burrell and Ellen Wilson.[1] In 1938 the family relocated to Malta, where they lived until 1942.[2]
Hyacinth Ann Burrell, 21, a wig-maker, of Marine Avenue, Westcliff, was remanded in custody until December 29 at Southend today accused of wounding her father. Mr. Denys Burrell, by hitting him over the head with a shillelagh. Detective Superintendent Leslie Poole said Miss Burrell took home a Siamese kitten and had been ordered to get rid of it. Yesterday she ran a bath and later found her father had used the water. As he was having his breakfast she struck him over the head with the shillelagh. He was taken to hospital where stitches were inserted in a wound. The police were called, and when they asked her why she had hit her father she replied: "I didn't mean to kill him. I thought I could make him unconscious for a day or so and he wouldn't worry us."[3]
At age 26 in autumn 1963, Hyacinth married 48-year-old Leonard Thomas Allen.
Hyacinth Allen passed away in 2010.
