Phoebe Elizabeth Burris was born in September 1845 to John and Elizabeth (Gregory) Burris. She was most likely born in Wayne County, KY as she was 5 years old on the census for Wayne Co. ^[1]

Calvin and Elizabeth had at least eleven children: John William, Rev. James Sherman, Sarah Florence, Sophronia A., Mary E., Francis Marion, Cicero, Lorinda, Carrie W., Joseph Albert, and Marcus A.

According to the actual death certificate, her place of birth is Wayne County, Illinois. This is incorrect because she is 5 years of age and living with her parents in Wayne County, Kentucky. The certificate further states that she is 63 years old (placing her birth at 1845) and that she has lived in Illinois for 40 years. This is slightly off since she married in Pope County, IL in 1864. The cause of death was tuberculosis. Another error to note is that her burial is dated as Nov/Dec 1909, while the "filed for record" date is March of 1909. ^[8]

Find a Grave places her burial at Kingdom Church Cemetery, Carmi, White County, Illinois. However, the site provides no image of her gravestone. Her death certificate records her burial as "Powell's Cemetery". ^[9] .
