Biography

Carl was born on November 27, 1891, to Andrew "Andy" Burris and Susanna "Susie" (Culley) Burris of Emporia, Kansas.[1]

In 1895, Carl was three years old and living with his parents and younger brother Earl on their parents' farm in Elmerdaro Township, Lyon County, Kansas.[2]

In 1900, Carl (8) lived with his parents and younger siblings on the family farm in Elmerdaro Township, Lyon County, Kansas.[3]

In 1905, Carl was 13 years old and living with his parents and five younger siblings on the family farm in Elmerdaro Township, Lyon County, Kansas.[4]

In 1910, Carl (18) lived in Cherokee County, Texas, with his parents and six younger siblings.[5]

On December 15, 1914, Carl and Maggie Rebecca Bailey of Alabama applied for a marriage license in Tyler, Smith County, Texas.[6] The following day, December 16, the two were married by Charles M. Kennedy.[6]

The couple had six known children:

2. Clifford R. Burris
3. Lillian Margaret Burris
4. Aubrey James Burris
5. Eugene Thomas Burris
6. David Paul Burris

Carl registered for the World War I military draft on June 5, 1917, in Tyler, Smith County, Texas.[7]

In 1920, Carl (28) and Maggie (23) lived in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas, with their children Fay (4), Clifford (2) and Lillian (9 months).[8]

In 1930, Carl (38) and Maggie (34) lived with their children Fae (14), Clifford (12), Lillian (11), Aubrey (6), Eugene (3) and Paul (1) in a house the family rented for $10 per month on Golden Lane Road in Limestone, Texas.[9] Carl listed his occupation as a pumper in an oil field.[9]

Carl Burris passed away on October 22, 1932, in Freestone County, Texas, at the age of 40.[1][10] He is buried next to his wife Maggie in Bullard Cemetery, Bullard, Smith County, Texas, USA.[1]
