Biography

Robert W. Burrow, owner of the former Bob Burrow Chevrolet car dealership in Barrington, died Aug. 4, following a brief illness.

He was surrounded by Lois, his wife of 60 years and their children.

Born in Long Beach, CA, on March 6, 1926, he attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School, where he developed an interest in automobiles.

After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945, he briefly attended the Santa Barbara campus of the University of California.

In spring of 1948, he met Lois Eich in Desert Hot Springs, CA, where her family was vacationing.

They married on Aug. 21, 1948, at the Riverside Mission Inn in Riverside, which they revisited on their 60th anniversary and recreated their wedding photos.

After working his way up from gas station attendant to auto mechanic, to new car salesman, and sales manager at Des Plaines Motors, he purchased aChevrolet dealership in Barrington from Ed Bierkness, who became a life-long friend.

Bob Burrow Chevrolet sold and serviced cars from 1960 until Bob sold the dealership and retired in 1983.

During his years as owner of Bob Burrow Chevrolet, he was active with the Barrington Chamber of Commerce and sponsored many local sports teams.

After serving as Treasurer and Secretary, he became Chairman of the Board of Illinois New Car and Truck Dealers Association.

He also served as Finance Chairman for Senator John Graham and served on a commission for GovernorEdgar.

Bob's passions in life included his family, golfing and boating.

He and Lois traveled extensively in the United States and abroad.

Together with his family, he had many memorable adventures, including a vacation on a houseboat on the Mississippi river, several cross-country car trips, and a Caribbean Christmas cruise.

After retirement, he and Lois divided their time between homes in Lake Zurich and Ft. Myers, FL. Predeceased by his parents, Gertrude and Albert Burrow; nephew, Greg Burrow; and niece Alison Burrow.

He is survived by his wife Lois; his brother Al; children, Bruce (Beverly), Bonnie, Donna Gallagher (Rich) and Dale (Nancy); his grandchildren Kelly, Robert, Ryan (Tiffany), Lynsay, Becky Lynn (Michael), Suzie Willard (Jim) and Mike Gallagher (Herni); great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, EuniceGranzin (Wisconsin); brother-in-law, Bob Eich (Arlington Heights); several nieces and nephews and their many spouses and children.

A celebration of life for Bob Burrow is scheduled on Aug. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Makray Memorial Golf Club, 1010 S. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL. A private interment will take place at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to "The Monarch Hospice Foundation" at 5435 Bull Valley Rd., Suite 304, McHenry, IL, 60050.
