Biography

Grand-daughter of Robert Burry and illegitimate daughter of Jane/Jean Burry... Robert is thought to have married Catherine Christie and they had a daughter Jane Burry. Jane fell pregnant to a William Young of Muirhead but they did not wed. He shifted to Edinburgh soon afterwards, leaving Jane to become a solo parent of Catherine (Christie) Burry -- taking her grandmother's maiden name, and her grandfather's surname (b. August, 1858)

In the 1861 census Catherine (age 2) was the grandaughter (granddaughter) of Robert Burry in Muirhead, Liff, Benvie and lnvergowrie, Angus.[1]

In the 1871 census Catherine (age 12), Scholar, was the grandaughter (granddaughter) of Robert Barry in Coupar Angus Rd Alma Cot, Liff, Benvie and lnvergowrie, Angus.[2]

Catherine(age 21), a domestic servant, married James Mckenzie(age 24) , a forester from camperdown, Lochee, on 29 Dec 1879 at Tarbrax, Inverarity, Forfarshire, Scotland. parents William Young, a mason (deceased) and Jane Burry. his parents listed as David Mckenzie, a land Steward and margaret Mckenzie M. S. Wilson. Witnesses Adam Mckenzie and Helen Reddie(cant quite read her surname)[3]

In the 1881 census Catherine (age 22) was the wife of James MacKenzie in Camperdown West Lodge, Liff, Benvie and lnvergowrie, Angus.[4]

It is believed James and Catherine emigrated from Scotland to Tipperary, Ireland 5 years after marrying (abt. 1883-84). Reasons for leaving Scotland are still unknown.
