Some Internet sources and at least one modern source list her as “Mary Hastings”. [1] This is likely due to confusing this Mary, or her daughter Mary, with Mary Burt Belden Hastings (1676-1734); they are not the same.
Biography
Samuel Belding and Mary were married about 1654[2] or 1655, Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut.[3]
The following child is not listed as a child of Samuel and Mary by Savage's Genealogical Dictionary, Stiles' History of Wethersfield, Judd's History of Hadley, Wells' History of Hatfield or the Vital Records of Hadley, Hatfield or Wethersfield. Do this child belong to a different family?
Mary, the first wife of Samuel Belden, was killed in an Indian attack on 19 Sept 1677[6][7] at Hatfield,
Massachusetts. [7][8][9]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
Traditionally the first wife of Samuel Belden is Mary Unknown. Hastings has come along in more modern times, and so far I have discovered no reason or proof, why she is believed to be Mary Hastings.
