Biography

Alice Maria Burton was born in Erpingham Sheringham Norfolk England in 1846 to Robert Burton and Alice Ann Pigott.

Census England in 1861; Alice was a 14 year old scholar, boarding with her sister Harriet and a family named Turner. On 1871 census her name was spelt, Alas Burton and her age 24 years. The Turner family detail from 1861 census has been kept in case of a connection with the Turner family who married into the Burton family.

Turner Property at Holt reveals; George, Head of family born 1804; Anna M. his wife born 1813; Sarah Ann born 1839; Ann Jane born 1843; a niece Ann M, Jarvis; three outdoor labourers; a 16 year old female servant named Mary Moy.

Shipping reveals; Alice M. Burton age 33 [which should read 38, it is hard to read] arrived in Brisbane on 22 August 1884 on the ship Indus. She was the last of the Burton family to arrive in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Marriage Notice published in the Queenslander and Brisbane Courier "Herlihy- Burton"On the 3 January 1889 by the Register general at his office, Brisbane, J. D. Herlihy; inspector of Railway Department to A.M. Burton; eldest daughter of Mr Robert Burton Esq, Green End, Albert River late of Freeze Hall, Southweald, Essex, England and grand daughter of the late Robert Pigott Esq Upper Sherringham, Norfolk England [spelling is as written]

Married by Registrar General, Brisbane on 3 January 1889 Queensland, Australia and they had no children.

Death occurred 12 July 1923 in Goodna Hospital; buried in Goodna cemetery.
