Mary was born about 1820. She is the daughter of Harry Burton and Rosa Burton. She was part of the following family group that was enslaved by Jaccob Burton Jr.

Mary, daughter of Harry and Rosa, correlates with the Mary in the 1865 sharecropping agreement with Andrew Jackson Burton (1835-1920). Andrew Jackson Burton was the son of Jacob Burton Jr. In the above quotes from Jacob's will, any children of Mary that were mentioned were born before 1862 when the will was written. John is named as her youngest son. Often the ages given in such records are impercise estimates. When reviewing the Will, the 1865 Sharecropping agreement and Mary's 1870 census the following appears to be consistent.
Any son younger that John, is born after 1862, Per the will Mary had a known son John born prior to 1862. The minor John in the 1865 share cropping agreement is 5 years old with an inferred birth year of 1860. There is a 3 year old William, born after 1862 and 2 years younger than John. In Mary's 1870 census the ages vary as is common for that era, but John being older and the age difference being two years is consistent.
