Biography

Born 1876 Betty Ann Bracken Burton to Daniel Burton and Nancy Motley of Davie County, North Carolina. She married William Andrew Nance in 1893. She died in 1965 age 89 and is buried in Mountian View Cemetery, Danville, Virginia.

Family Story: It is possible that the middle name of Bracken (also spelled Brackin) came from a Dr. Samuel Bracken who lived very near the Burton family in the 1850 census. He might have been the doctor who treated Mary Pass Burton (Daniel's mother) during her last delivery and illness. Daniel's sister's name is Mary Bracken Burton. Mary Pass died close in time to birth of Mary Bracken.[1]
