Biography

Hannah Burton was the daughter of William and Hannah (Wickes) Burton. [1] [2]

She married Timothy Carpenter who was born born at Pawtuxet, Rhode Island about 1643-8, son of William Carpenter and Elizabeth Arnold. [1] [3] [2]

Her father William Burton wrote his will on March 20, 1703, with a codicil added on July 8, 1713. In it he names among his children, Hannah Carpenter. [4]

Timothy died at Providence, Rhode Island on August 19, 1726. [1] [3] [2]

Timothy Carpenter, by his will dated December 1, 1724: left bequests to:

  • son Timothy
  • daughter Ethalenah Sweet
  • daughter Elizabeth Williams
  • daughter Hannah Arnold
  • granddaughter Hannah Carpenter alias Hannah Arnold
  • grandson Phillip Sweet [2] [1]

As wife Hannah is not mentioned in the will, she likely died before December, 1724.

Children

  1. Ethalenah [2] born ___ ; married Daniel, son of John Sweet 2d, who was born 1657. The family had their home at Sweet's Cove Warwick, Rhode Island. [1]
  2. Elizabeth [2] born about 1676; married Peleg, son of Daniel and grandson of Roger Williams. [1]
  3. Hannah [2] born ___; married December 9, 1709; Elisha, son of Israel and Mary (Barker) Arnold. [1]
  4. Timothy [2] born about 1680; died on August 2, 1749; married ?Mehitable Fraser. [1]
  5. William [2] was drowned at Pawtuxet Falls, October 29, 1708; young man, unmarried. [1]
