Biography
Samuel Edward William Stanley Burton was born in 1843 in Redruth, Cornwall, England, son of William Burton (1775 - 1845) and Susannah Marshall (~1795 - ). He may have arrived in Australia aboard the John Banks in 1855.
Samuel married Caroline Brown (<1843 - ) on 6 Apr 1862 in Redruth, South Australia[1]. Their children were:
Samuel died on 15 Feb 1912 in Yelta, South Australia, Australia aged ~68[2].
OBITUARY.—Another of the old residents of this district passed away last evening in the person of Mr Samuel Burton, of Yelta. The deceased, who was 82 years of age. was a native of Mutton Cove, Devonport, England, and arrived in this State in a whaling ship 65 years ago He was a resident of the Moonta district for 50 years, and in the early sixties was an expert pit sawyer at Moonta Mines. He leaves one son and three daughters, his wife having predeceased him by many years. The funeral is announced to take place this afternoon.[3]
