Amelia Louisa Burton was born December 27, 1830. She was the daughter of Orestus and Ruth (Andrews) Burton of Steuben and Yates County, New York. Her father died when she was still an infant and her mother married John Russell. Along with her brother William, she was “Loisa” in the household of her grandmother, Waity Andrews, in 1850. [1]
She married Nathan D. Cooley between 1853 and 1855. [2] [3] He was the son of Beriah and Martha (Dillon) Cooley. Their children were William B., Mary E., Fannie B. and Ida.
The Burton family settled in Hudson, Lenawee County, Michigan, sometime before 1880. Nathan Cooley died there in 1897.
Amelia died November 16, 1904 in Hudson, Michigan, of heart disease. [4] She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Hudson, Lenawee County, Michigan. [5]
