Biography

Thelma E. Burton was born November 20, 1913 in Penn Yan. She was the daughter of Harry S. and Ethel (Dean) Burton.

She married Fenton E. Bootes on November 4, 1932 in the Methodist Parsonage in canandiagua with the Rev. Samuel Houghton officiating. They had one son, Ronald.

MIDDLESEX – Mr. and Mrs. Fenton E. Bootes recently celebrated their 40th anniversary with an open house at their home on West Swamp Road, Middlesex, near Potter. The former Thelma Burton, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Seward Burton, and Fenton Bootes, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bootes, were married November 4, 1932 in the Methodist Parsonage in Canandaigua by the Rev. Samuel Houghton. Bootes is employed on the maintenance staff at Labelon in Canandaigua. Mrs. Bootes is active in research in connection with the Daughters of the American Colonist and is a past regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution. They are both members of the Potter Community Church. The husband is a member of the Antique Car Club of America and the Model T Ford Club International. Mr. and Mrs. Bootes have one son,, Ronnie Leigh, a graduate of Morrisville in auto mechanics. He works on the maintenance staff at Comstock Foods in Rushville. Some 60 guests from Rochester, Webster, Penn Yan, Hammondsport, Bluff Point, Himrod, Benton, Canandaigua, Gorham, Rushville, Middlesex and Potter attended the open house. -- Daily Messenger, Canandaigua, NY, Monday, November 27, 1972, Pg 9.

Thelma Burton Bootes died September 21, 1997 in Potter, Yates County, New York. She is buried in Benton Rural Cemetery, Benton Center, Yates County, New York. [1]

"POTTER – Thelma B. Bootes, 83, of 983 W. Swamp Road, died Sunday, Sept 21, 1997, at home. Friends called Tuesday, Sept 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home, Gorham. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Potter Community Church, officiated by the Rev. Thomas Castle. Burial will be in Benton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Potter Community Church, or Ontario-Yates Hospice. Born Nov. 20, 1913 in Penn Yan to Harry and Ethel Dean Burton, she married Fenton E. Bootes Nov. 4, 1932, and he died Feb. 11, 1986. She was employed for several years at Bootes Florist, Penn Yan. She was a member of the Community Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of Gu-Ya-No-Ga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a past regent of the Daughters of the American Colonists, and the organizing president of the Captain James Avery Chapter of the Colonial Dames, VIIC. She was a member of the Daughters of 1812, and the Washington Family Descendants. She was the Town of Potter historian for 20 years, and wrote a book entitled, Potterstown Profile, which was a history of the Town of Potter. She was a member of the Municipal Historians of NYS, the Marcus Whitman Historical Society, and a life member of the Metropolitan Owners Club Upstate New York Chapter. She is survived by a son, Ronnie L. (Patricia M.) of Potter; a close friend, Janet Berry of Bainbridge; a brother-in-law, Vincent Bootes of Canandaigua; and several nieces and nephews. – Chronicle Express, Wednesday, September 24, 1997.
