Biography

William was born in 1810. He is the son of Henry Burton and Mary Williams.

William was born in Tenessee. He married in Arkansas and for the next ten years, has children born in Tenessee, Missouri and Arkansas before settling in Missouri.

Laura M. Lee wrote in 1982 from her findings:

William Burton served in the Black Hawk war in 1831 and was given a land deed for Taney county Missouri as part of his service. During the Civil War, he was a Union supporter. Silas Turnbo wrote many accounts of the Civil War, one of which was a story of Billy Burton who was killed by confederate bushwackers. The names match those of William Burton. One of the men was William's nephew.
