Biography

Elizabeth Burton was born 29 Nov. 1717 on her father's plantation in Indian River Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware, USA. She was a daughter of William Thomas Burton and his wife, Frances. [1]

On 13 October 1766, Elizabeth Prettyman, the widow of William, filed an accounting for the estate of her husband Jonathan Coopper. The accounting included amounts due to her Burton children. In 1768, Elizabeth was granted the guardianship of her daughter, Sarah Coopper. The bondsmen were her sons from her first marriage.

Elizabeth (Burton) Burton died in 1777 in Sussex County, Delaware. Her will left bequests to her surviving children: John Stratton Burton, William Burton, Ann (Burton) Bagwell, and Robert Prettyman.
