Biography

Genevieve A. Gidley, 84, of Waverly, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, October 18, 2005 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. She was born on November 29, 1920 in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Orville and Tula (Hovde) Busby. At an early age she moved with her family to Longview, Washington and graduated from the R.A. Long High School in 1939. In 1945 Genevieve was united in marriage to Claude J. Gidley in Longview. Over the next years they lived in Salem, Oregon, Idaho Falls, Idaho, and San Jose, California. Claude died in 1976 and in 1995 Genevieve moved from San Jose to Waverly, making her home at the Waverly Manor. In 2002 she moved to Bartels where she had since lived. While living in San Jose, Genevieve was active with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She also volunteered much time to the San Jose Public Library assisting with the “Books Aloud” program. After moving to Waverly she made her church home at Trinity United Methodist Church until moving to Bartels. Genevieve enjoyed giving of herself to her family and others, and taught her family to do the same. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Claude; one sister and two brothers.^[1]
