Biography

Mary Ann Buscall was born in about 1820 in Swaffham, Norfolk. She was the daughter of Charles Buscall and Jane (Robbens) Buscall.

Mary Ann married William Pearson in 1849 in St Pancras district.

By April 7th 1861, William and Mary Ann were living in Purley Cottages, Brighton Road, Croydon, Surrey. They had six children - William (9, and born in Hornsey, Middlesex); Hannah (8, and born in Hornsey); Charles (7, and born in London, Middlesex); Mary A (5); Esther (4, and born in London, Middlesex); and baby John, born in Croydon. Also in the household was William's unmarried sister Esther Pearson, aged 37 and born in Colchester. She was a monthly nurse.

By April 2nd 1871, William and Mary Ann were living in Farncombe, Surrey. William was working as a coachman. Three of their children were in the household - Charles (17, and now said to have been born in Hornsey); Benjamin (8, and born in Croydon); and Ebenezer (5, and born in Farncombe). Also in the household was William's mother-in-law Jane Buskell, aged 80 and born in Sporle, Norfolk. Charles was working as a signal boy. Jane Buskell was widowed, and a dressmaker.

By April 5th 1891, William and Mary Ann were still in Farncombe, and William was still working as a coachman at 72. Two of their children were in the household - Anna aged 38, and Benjamin (28). Anna gave her occupation as housekeeper; Benjamin was a bank clerk. Both were single.

Mary Ann died on 11 Aug 1896, aged 76, at their home, 92, High Street, Godalming. She was buried on 15 Aug 1896 in Nightingale Cemetery, Godalming, in the consecrated section.

On March 31st 1901, William was visiting Richard and Hannah C Shillingford in Stoke, Guildford, Surrey. They had a grandson Bertie Pearson aged two (born in Farncombe) also in the household.

By April 2nd 1911, William was living in Godalming with his married daughter Hannah Wiles, her husband Richard and their daughter Muriel Ann (aged 13).

William died on 3 Jun 1911 at 92, High Street, Godalming. He was buried on 7 Jun 1911 with his wife.
