Joseph died shortly after birth.[1] His parents intended to name the baby Patrick after his paternal grandfather. However, the nuns who operated the hospital where his mother had her delivery felt the baby needed immediate baptism and named him after the patron of their religious order, the Sisters of St. Joseph.[2]He is buried in Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard, California.
