Obituary

MRS. SUSANNAH ABBOTT

Mrs. Susanah Abbott of Bon Homme, S.D., died at the home of her brother, Dr. G.N. Bussey of Chicago, on Monday morning, Oct. 9, 1922. Mrs. Abbott had accompanied her daughter to Chicago for a visit there and later in Wisconsin, but was taken sick and in spite of every attention soon passed away.

Susannah Bussey was born on Albion Prairie, May 13, 1854. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Jane (North) Bussey, and of her own girlhood family were seven brothers and two sister, all of whom survive her except Thomas Bussey who died in the present year. They are Benjamin Bussey of Tyndall, S.D.; Mrs. Mary B. Barber, of Edgerton; Frank of Bon Homme, S.D.; Mrs. E.J. Slater of the same place; John of Centerville; George of Chicago; William and Ezra of Edgerton. On the 26th of March, 1876, she was married to Mr. Alfred J. Abbott, going immediately to Bon Homme where Mr. Abbott had previously pre-empted, which had been her home for the past 46 years.

Six children were born to this union, two boys dying of diptheria in 1884 and one dying a year later. The three remaining children are William Franklin and Emma Jane, wife of Hugh Madole, both of Bon Homme, and Hazel Belle Abbott of Chicago. Soon after going to Bon Homme Mr. and Mrs. Abbott joined the newly organized Congregational church and through all the years her love of the church and her service to its work have been without stint.
