Biography

Elizabeth (Butcher) Baxendale was born in Lancashire, England.

Elizabeth was born in Preston, Lancashire, England, on September 1, 1864.^[1] She was the daughter of Stephen Butcher and Elizabeth Ireland, and one of eleven children. She was baptized on September 18, 1864, in Preston, at St John.^[2] She was enumerated in the 1871, ^[3] and 1881 census ^[4] residing with her family in the Preston area. In 1881 she stated her occupation as "Cotton Weaver". She was sixteen.

Elizabeth married William Baxendale in 1884.^[5] The marriage was performed on March 29th in Bamber Bridge (an urban village in Lancashire, England, 3 miles south-east of the city of Preston, in the borough of South Ribble), at St Saviour.^[6] According to the parish register, both were nineteen years old. The couple would have at least ten children. Elizabeth and William were enumerated in the 1891 census ^[7]residing in Walton-le-Dale (Preston) with four children ages six to one year old. Elizabeth listed her occupation as "Weaver Cotton". In 1901 ^[8] there were nine children, ages fifteen to under one year old. The family was living in Preston. In 1911 ^[9] the family was enumerated residing in Lostock Hall by Preston with nine children, ages twenty one to six.

Elizabeth passed away on March 6, 1927, in Preston.^[10]
