Biography

Private Harold Butcher was fatally wounded in battle during World War I.

Harold Butcher was born on 5 Sep 1890 at 6 Upper Bond St in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. His birth registration listed his parents as Benjamin William Butcher, Carpenter, and Annie (Long) Butcher.[1]

On 5 Apr 1891 he was living with his parents 6 Upper Bond St in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. His father's occupation was Carpenter.[2]

On 31 Mar 1901 he was living with his parents at 33 Rutland Cr (at Dursley Rd) in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. His father's occupation was Carpenter.[3]

On 2 Apr 1911 he was living with his parents at 111 Lower Hudley in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. Harold's occupation was (body making) Coach Builder.[4]

On 22 May 1915 Harold married Daisy Ann Cook at the Register Office in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. Their residence at the time of marriage was 3 Yerbury Street in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England. Harold's occupation was Journeyman Coachbuilder.[5]

Harold and Daisy welcomed their first daughter, Lois, on 26 Aug 1915 at Pretoria Bungalow in Weir, Broad Hinton, Wiltshire, England. On her birth registration Harold's occupation was listed as Journeyman Coachbuilder and Wheelwright.[6]

Their second child, Kathleen, was born on 13 Nov 1916.[7]

Harold served as a Private in the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, 15th Batallion, during WWI. He died in France on 4 Jun 1917 from wounds sustained in battle. He was 26 years old. He is commemorated in Etaples Military Cemetery.[8]
