Peter seems to have been a bit of a land speculator. He first started buying and selling land in Worcester town (1732-36) where he is not known to have ever resided. Leaving Marlborough, he resided successively in Rutland, Grafton, Shrewsbury and Upton.
25 March 1768, Peter 'of Grafton' buys seventy-five acres in Upton from Samuel Warren. (Worcester Deeds, Vol. CV).
This is where Peter finally settled and probably died, though no death, burial or probate records have been found.
The only land transactions between Peter and his sons concern this parcel and only Ebenezer as the other party. Note that these deeds do not even define their familial relationship.
6 April 1797, Peter Butler of Upton, yeoman, for one thousand dollars, sells to Ebenezer Butler of Upton, husbandman, a parcel of land with buildings thereon in Upton containing seventy five acres. Acknowledged the same day. (Worcester Deeds, Vol. CLV)
13 April 1797, Ebenezer Butler mortgages it back to Peter Butler for three hundred pounds (Worcester Deeds, Vol. CXLIII).
Peter Butler was then eighty-eight years old.
