Ellen Butler married Henry Moore on 24 Oct 1863 in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Chapel, Dukinfield, Ashton-under-Lyne, England.
In 1871 Ellen and Henry were living at 20 Ashton Street in Dukinfield with their 3 year old son, Thomas and another lady, Mary Butler. Ellen is a housekeeper, Henry and Mary are working at a cotton Mill factory; Henry as a cotton winder, and Mary as a cotton factory operative.[1] Based on where they lived they may have worked at Barn Meadow Mills, Dukinfield Hall Mills or Union Mills.
By 1881 the family had grown and they now lived at 3 Quarry Street in Stalybridge. Henry, now 36, is a Self-Acting minder [2] at a cotton mill. Ellen, 38 is a housekeeper and they now have 4 children: Thomas, 13, Mary E., 10, Jane, 5 all scholars in school & John, 2. [3] A daughter, Catherine was born in 1873 but died in 1875. The closest mill was the Bridge Street Mill.
In 1891 the family still lived at 3 Quarry St, and 2 more sons, Henry and James, have been added to the family. Everyone except Ellen and the youngest son John are listed as workers in the cotton mill.
