Walter was born 26 Apr 1923 to Marshall Allen Butler and Nancy Bertie Wilson. [1] He married Christine Johnson on 28 Apr 1959 in Bernalillo County, NM. [2] [3] (Walter's brother, Elmer, married Christine's sister, Lib.)

Walter and Christine had one son. [2]

Walter Henry Butler, 81, died on September 3, 2004. He had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1949. He is survived by his son, Walt I. Butler and wife, Renee, of Albuquerque; two sisters, Anna Petty of Albuquerque and Nina Lynn and husband, Bill, of Logan, NM; and two grandchildren, Rhett Alan and Mariah Leigh Butler, both of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine P. Butler in 1996.
Walter retired from PNM in 1979 and from Plains Electric Co-op in 1984. He was a World War II recipient of the Purple Heart for injury received in combat in Italy as a tail gunner in a B-17. He was Treasurer for the 99th Bomb Group Historical Society and manager for the PNM Retiree's Softball Team in Albuquerque.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, September 10, with funeral services to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Sandia Baptist Church. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
